<p> Research conducted for Experian estimates that £1.02 billion worth of online shopping transactions were abandoned last year by UK consumers frustrated by old and inefficient identity measures. </p>
<p>One in five of these abandoned transactions were not taken elsewhere as individuals cancelled their shopping attempt altogether, resulting in £214 million worth of net lost revenue for UK retailers. </p>
<p>The study, which was conducted for Experian by the International Fraud Prevention Research Centre and included survey data as well as insights from online retailers and the Office of National Statistics, revealed that 44 per cent of UK shoppers have abandoned at least one online shopping transaction in the last year having become frustrated with the length and complexity of certain older forms of identity verification. </p>
<p>Older forms of online identity verification, typically complex, standalone systems drawing on single sources of information to corroborate identity information, are unable to validate as many individuals electronically as modern services. </p>
<p>As a result, genuine customers might be forced to call a contact centre, submit physical documents through the post or visit the store or branch to confirm identity. Alternatively, the organisation might choose to accept a lower level of proof, and risk higher levels of fraud, in order to minimise customer inconvenience. </p>
<p>Nick Mothershaw, UK Director of Identity & Fraud at Experian, comments: "The UK’s lost billions from inefficient online identity and security measures is a price that doesn’t have to be paid given that technology now enables incredibly robust identity checks to be undertaken almost instantaneously."</p>

<p> Experian and Symantec Corp. have announced that the two-factor credentialing solution jointly developed by the companies was selected by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to provide Enterprise Remote Identity Proofing (ERIP) and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Credential Services in support of the Affordable Health Care Act (ACA). </p>
<p>The Experian and Symantec solution will play a critical role in a $78 million contract that was awarded to Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) providing CMS with an offering that helps them solve key challenges that arise in serving the USA’s large uninsured population. </p>
<p>The Experian and Symantec solution combines Experian’s identity proofing capabilities with the strong authentication capabilities of Symantec’s Validation and ID Protection (VIP) Service to deliver secure online identity credentials. </p>
<p>It will minimize the risk of fraud by providing more than 35 million U.S. citizens with secure online access to the State and Federal Health Insurance Exchange, while complying with electronic authentication guidelines in the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publication SP 800-63-1 and achieving Level 3 Assurance. </p>
<p>"Experian is thrilled that our solution was selected by CMS and believes it will add great value in helping to provide millions of citizens with access to insurance and medical information, while simultaneously helping to safeguard individual users’ identities and complying with federal mandates and regulations." said Scott Waldron, president of Experian’s Government Services. </p>

<p>Experian insight will then enable Arrow Global to better understand the financial situation of individual debtors and where to focus collection efforts, maximising recoveries across Carphone Warehouse’s debt portfolio. </p>
