When Paige Westerhausen was asked to be the maid of honor at her sister's wedding, she didn't consider the speech she would have to give at the reception. She isn't a fan on giving speeches, and writing two drafts that flopped didn't boost her self-confidence. With a bit of help from her mother — and a dose of divine support — Paige stepped up to the microphone and nailed the speech.

<a href="http://www.helmdisciples.org/theological/Ministerial_Student_Grant_application.pdf">2012 HELM Ministerial Student Grant Competition Opens</a><br>
Disciples ministerial students who have completed the first year of a Master of Divinity degree are eligible to apply for grants up to $3,000 to support non-curricular experiences that will strengthen their ability to provide transformational leadership for congregations and other ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
Proposals may include research projects, educational experiences outside the curriculum of the student's institution, internships, travel for study, or other activities likely to fulfill the purpose of the program.
Written proposals must be in the hands of Higher Education and Leadership Ministries (HELM) by March 15, 2012. Projects must be completed by June 30, 2013. Preliminary proposals may be submitted to HELM by February 15, 2012 for review and commit.
This program is available through a partnership between Higher Education and leadership Ministries and The Pension Fund of the Christian Church.

HELM invites high school students committed to helping lead a rapidly changing church to apply to join the 12th class of HELM Leadership Fellows. Application packets are available now at <a href="http://www.helmdisciples.org/aid/fellows.htm">HELM Leadership Fellows Program</a>. Leadership Fellows experience an ongoing relationship with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) that adds value to their educations through organized opportunities for fellowship, training, and service to the church. With the help of a campus mentor, fellows design and conduct projects on or near their campuses, participate in an annual conference, and receive a $2,000 annual scholarship grant.
Since 2001, over 70 fellows have passed through the program into careers as ministers, college professors, musicians and broadcasters, teachers, and activists for peace and the environment. You can meet current and past HELM Leadership Fellows at <a href="http://www.helmdisciples.org/aid/fellows.htm">HELM Leadership Fellows Program</a>.
Applicants must be high school seniors entering college in fall, 2012 or community college students transferring to a four-year school. Fellows may attend any accredited four-year college or university, though students attending Disciples-related schools are particularly encouraged to apply.

Brad Lyons, HELM's Communications Director and Program Officer for almost 11 years, has been named President and Publisher of the Christian Board of Publication effective August 15. Both HELM and CBP are related to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).<p>

The eleventh class of HELM Leadership Fellows will be incoming freshmen during the upcoming academic year: Nate Anderson of Heart of the Rockies Christian Church in Fort Collins, Colo. (TCU); Jonathan Enari of First Christian Church, Bloomington, Ind. (Indiana University); Ally Faenza of Vine Street Christian Church, Nashville, Tenn. (Georgetown University); Colton Lott of First Christian Church, Ada, Okla. (Eureka College); Sydney Merrill of Speedway Christian Church, Indianapolis (TCU); and Zack Plaster of First Christian Church of Oak Ridge, Tenn. (University of Tennessee).<p>

The Hope Partnership for Missional Transformation has been born out of these conversations. Spearheaded by Church Extension (CE), Disciples Home Missions (DHM) and HELM, the Hope Partnership is a collaboration of these ministries and other general, ecumenical, regional and pastoral partners who desire to explore, design and implement new and more effective ways to accompany congregations as they seek to live out their mission and witness.<br>
