<p>Dear IDEA Members,</p>
<p>I know all of you are extremely busy preparing your students for the regional drafting and design competitions that will be held within the next few weeks at eighteen college sites throughout the state. This year we allowed the regional sites to choose the competition date so be sure to check with your regional director to be sure of the exact competition date. </p>
<p>Currently we have over 1000 students registered to compete in 8 different competition divisions. So this is truly an exciting time of the year for your students. I wish all of the student’s success in their competitions and thank all of the teachers for their effort and hard work in preparing your student for the competition and providing them skills to enter the workforce or continue their education.</p>
<p>I want to thank the regional directors for all of their effort in preparing for the competition at their institutions and arranging for judges. I know how much work it is having served as a regional director for over ten years, I do appreciate all your efforts to provide a great environment for the competition and great experience for the students.</p>
<p>The IDEA Executive Board met on Friday night, February 24<sup>th</sup> to finalize the regional competition issues and discuss the state competition. One of the issues we discussed was the Introductory CAD competition, as stated in the IDEA Drafting-Design Competition- Rules and Regulations on page 2:</p>

<p><span style="color: #ff0000;">NOTE: Depending on the regional setup and enrollment, there may be two sets of winners within this division. Entrants must designate <strong>2D or 3D</strong> when registering. Students who “draw” all the views using drafting procedures will be judged separately from those who “model” the building and use software to create the views. 3D modeling will only be allowed for entrants who specified 3D on their registration form. These entrants will use 3D modeling tools within programs such as AutoCAD Architecture, Revit, ArchiCAD, SoftPlan, etc. Entrants who marked 2D on their form must create all the views without using 3D models. Check with the Regional Director for specifics. Not all regional directors are</span><br /><span style="color: #ff0000;">able to provide both options for this division.</span></p>

<p>This basically states that Inventor software cannot be used by students competing in the Introductory CAD competition.</p>
<p>I hope to see many of you at the Illinois State competition at Illinois State University in Normal on May 14<sup>th</sup>.</p>
