Price increase coming on November 1st. Price increase from the factory this
past summer means increase on this end of <span style="color:red;">5-10%</span> across the Lundahl product
line. </font></P>
<P><font class="subhead"> New Products for 2011</font></P>
<p>Available immediately there is the new Mk III version of the <a href="digitalaudio.html"><strong>Extreme RAKK dac Kit</strong></a>.
This product incorporates the Mk III improvements in the RAKK dac,
the Active Output Stage Mk III, and all of the input options that have been
developed to make the RAKK dac Mk III applicable to a wider variety of
digital audio input sources. </p>
<p>In addition, we are now shipping the new Mk III version of the <a href="linestage.html"><strong>Extreme LineStage Kit</strong></a>.
It also uses the Active Ouput Stage Mk III in combination with
the Surface Mount Shunt Attentuator and a custom enclosure provide to an
excellent line stage comparable with the best high end products out there.
There are a range of possible input and output combinations that can be
specified when ordering that combine balanced and unbalanced inputs.</p>
<p>The new revision of the <a href="phonostage.html"><strong>Maxxed-Out Phono Preamplifier</strong></a> is now available
incorporating some improvements of sonic and ease-of adjustment consequence.
In addition, there are Phono Upgrade Kits that have been developed for
earlier versions of the K&K Phono Preamps to bring them close to the level
of sonic excellence of the revised design.</p>
<P><font class="subhead"> New Products Slated for Release Later in 2011</font></P>
<p>There are also several products not yet ready, but already in prototype form
that will be available in 2011. These include a <strong>SE Line Stage Kit</strong> based on
the 6N6P tube and your choice of two Lundahl parafeed output transformers.
As a complement to the Maxxed-Out Phono Preamp Kit we have developed a
<strong>variable frequency turntable motor power supply</strong> that will independently
drive both coils in a hysteresis synchronous motor and apply the appropriate
phase shift for optimum vibration performance. For those who record music
as well as listen to it, there will be a <strong>Ribbon Microphone Preamp Kit</strong>
available soon. This has been a long time coming due to some performance
issues, but recent phono preamp improvements have shown the way to making
this product a reality. The availability of inexpensive, quality ribbon
microphones has made an inexpensive, quality mic pre kit a necessity for
those who want to capture the sound as it was made!</p>
<P><font class="subhead"> Lundahl Transformer Price Increase</font></P>
<p>We've held off increasing prices since April 2008 (before the financial
"meltdown"!), but it's now time. Lundahl increased their prices in November
2010 as a result of the weaker U.S. dollar and soaring commodity prices, so
our prices must reflect these realities. Not all transformers have
increased in price, but some made using more exotic metals, like the small
signal cobalt amorphous core transformers (LL1674, etc), have increased
substantially. These price changes are effective immediately.</p>

RAKK dac Mk III is now available!
</font></P>
After nearly two years of research and development we are very pleased to
announce the launch of a new version of the venerable RAKK dac, a
collaboration between Dave Davenport of Raleigh Audio (the RA of RAKK), and
Kevin Carter of K&K Audio (the KK of RAKK), that began in 2004 with the
original RAKK dac and yielded the improved Mk II version in early 2007. As
you will <a href="digitalaudio.html"> read in more detail in the introduction here</a>, we have worked hard to
provide another substantial improvement in the quality of reproduced audio
derived from digital audio sources. We've also developed a wider variety of
interfaces that enable TOSLINK, USB, and I2S connections with the RAKK dac
Mk III. The small number of "beta" testers who have installed the Mk III in
their systems thought that the Mk II would be difficult to displace, but now
agree that there was no area of performance in which the Mk III isn't equal
to or surpasses the Mk II. The portrayal of recorded space, the perception
of truer-to-life music dynamics, and the tautness and extension of frequency
extremes are all key areas in which the Mk III excels relative to the Mk II.
Some have remarked that the presentation is more analog-like, but I won't go
there! Listen for yourself and let us know what you think...
<P><font class="subhead">New Tube Power Amplifier Modification Kit</font></P>
<p>My first tube amplifier back in 1982 was a Dynaco Stereo 70. It was an
exceptional learning tool for me and I enjoyed its mellow music-making.
Unltimately it proved to be too mellow for my evolving tastes, so I moved on
to other more incisive vintage tube amplifiers. However, I've always
harbored the suspicion that I would come back to it one day with a
modification that would provide the incisiveness I missed combined with the
great value that an ST-70 represents. This modification is unlike the
others available in that the phase splitting is accomplished in the input
transformer, making high performance available with only 2 stages of
amplification. Both stages are operated as Class A differential amplifiers.

Jensen Capacitors are now available from K&K Audio!</font></P>
<p>Who would have believed that a transformer guy would embrace coupling
capacitors? I have found the <strong>Jensen foil/paper in oil capacitors</strong> to be very
nice for a number of coupling applications, where they add a richer, less
"hi-fi" sound to the parts mix. They seem particularly good as a coupling
capacitor when used with medium mu, medium Rp tubes in the choke loaded,
grounded cathode configuration, where interstage transformers are often

material used in many applications are substantial. You can choose more
traditional silicon iron core transformers for your designs and get started at an
attractive price. When you have the desire for a greater level of sonic refinement,
the amorphous iron core versions can be substituted in your design with
minimal revoicing. If you have no further use for the original silicon iron
transformers and they are in good condition, K&K Audio will credit <strong>60% of their

<P><font class="subhead">Lundahl Output Transformers Now Available With Amorphous Core</font>
<P>Lundahl Transformers is releasing their large core output transformers (LL1620/1623/1627/1679/9202) in an 'AM' version manufactured with iron amorphous cores. This version provides enhanced audio performance based on the greater inherent magnetic homogeneity of amorphous materials. The normal crystal boundaries that develop in conventional magnetic materials when they are fabricated are absent from amorphous magnetic materials. This is accomplished by cooling the molten iron at a rate of one million degrees per second as it is formed. The absence of crystals that behave to some degree as autonomous magnetic entities, allows amorphous materials to magnetize and demagnetize in a more 'linear', coherent fashion.
<P>The prototypes had a more transparent, wider bandwidth character than their already excellent silicon iron counterparts. The 'speaker disappearing act' that is at the heart of excellent reproduced sound was even better with the amorphous core output transformers. This improvement is evidently entirely due to the core material, because all of the AM versions use coils and frames that are identical to those used in the standard silicon iron transformers.
<P>The price is $325 for the LL1620/1623/1627/9202AM, while the LL1679AM is $335. Several part numbers are already in stock here.
