That first <br soft>year, Jean raised $400 from friends, matched it with $400 of her own money and <br soft>awarded eight $100 scholarships. Today, the all-volunteer Board of Directors, <br soft>several of whom were themselves recipients of NHSF scholarships, continue with <br soft>Mrs. Lovell's vision.<br><br>"A good education is important because it contributes to world peace. Properly <br soft>educated persons apply their knowledge, insight, understanding, and fine ideals <br soft>to meet more adequately their family needs and beyond that, to develop the <br soft>justice which alone can earn for us 'Peace on earth, good will to men.' The New Haven Scholarship Fund helps <br soft>talented and motivational New Haven high school graduating seniors break <br soft>the cycle of limited opportunities.<br><br>The NHSF is a non-stock, nonprofit corporation, with charitable 501C(3) <br soft>status from the Internal Revenue Service; donations to the NHSF are <br soft>deductable to the extent provided by law. Our sole mission is to provide <br soft>scholarships to eligible New Haven students who have unmet financial <br soft>needs and academic potential.<br soft></span></span> </div>
