The event will feature a live auction, a silent auction, food and DJ entertainment. It shows the design of a Sea Monster painted on the front of Chief Scow’s house in Gwa’yasd<span style="text-decoration: underline;">a</span>ms, on Gilford Island.</h5>

<p>Dan Savard’s <em>Images from the Likeness House</em> looks at interactions of photography enthusiasts and First Peoples in B.C., Alaska and Washington from the 1860s to the 1920s. This collection of 300 images creates a fascinating visual record of the First Nations people as they were perceived by outsider photographers. In his text, Savard explains the early photographic formats and techniques used by these professional and amateur photographers. Even the (detailed!) captions are full of all sorts of intriguing information. <em>Images from the Likeness House</em> is a rich ethnohistorical resource that will certainly be enjoyed by history buffs and anthropology-loving types, but I imagine it’s the photographers who will get the biggest kick out this book.</p>

Charles Newcombe took two, three of four photographs of C’elicia spinning mountain goat hair at Musqueam; only two have survived. C’elicia uses a spindle stick (a tapered rod) and a spindle whorl (the disc) to spin the hair into thick yarn. This yarn could then be used to weave a Salish blanket similar to the one she sits on.</h5>

<p>From March 17 to 25, Victoria’s Royal BC Museum is offering <a href="http://calendar.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/spring-break-programs/" target="_blank">Spring Break photographic programming</a> to go with their exhibition, <em>Wildlife Photographer of the Year</em>. On each of the nine days, there will be a noon-time talk for teens and adults presented by a photo expert, including Dr. Rob Butler, ornithologist; Glenn Bartley, professional nature photographer; Dan Savard, archival photo manager; Sarah Gibbins, founder of the Ailura Project; Carlo Mocellin, digital imaging specialist; and Martin Gregus Jr., young award-winning photographer. There will also be a photo-themed tour for families at 11 a.m. each day and various self-guided activities.</p>

<p>Adobe has introduced Lightroom 4. The product went through a public beta phase starting in January, which gave everyone an opportunity to sample the changes in the next revision of Lightroom. Now the commercial release is here.</p>
<p>The basic tone controls have been extensively reworked, and LR4 also has two new workflow panels: Book is a photo book layout module, and Map allows you to map photos that have GPS location data onto a Google map. LR4 has better video file handling compared to the previous version.</p>
<p>It is available for Mac or Windows for around $150 for the full package or $80 for an upgrade from a previous version.</p>

<p>Halifax’s <a href="http://www.viewpointgallery.ca/" target="_blank">ViewPoint Gallery</a> is presenting <em>Double Take</em> through April 1. The exhibition features nine pairs of 12 x 18 images with identical or almost identical content—one image in black and white, the other in colour—with the goal of appreciating their differences. An Artist’s Talk will be held on Sunday, March 11, at 2 p.m. The show will highlight work from the following artists: Anne Bastedo, Keith Cossey, John McCarthy, Jan Napier, Allan Neilsen, Roxanne Smith, Jamie VanBuskirk, Paul Vienneau and Monika Wright.</p>
