to society in terms of pain and distress of the affected patients and their
families. Severe mental disorders, indeed, cause a heavy burden due to
morbidity and premature mortality, conditioning an increased risk of
unemployment, infirmity, unsafe and unhealthy habits, and representing the main
factor for suicide.</font></p>
<p> </p>
<p><font face="Comic Sans MS" size="3">The project <i>Neurobiology of the
Psychoses</i> intended to reduce the social and economical burden caused by
severe mental disorders by favoring a better understanding and knowledge of the causes and the factors
that affect the onset, the course and the outcome
of severe mental disorders.</font></p>
